Cedral Trims Explained: Which Profiles and Fixings Do You Need?

Every Cedral facade needs a start profile at the bottom, a trim at each corner and stop end, perforated closures to protect the ventilated cavity, and the correct fixings for your substructure. Cedral Lap and Cedral Click use different trims and different fixings, so the most common ordering mistake is mixing them up.

This guide lists every Lap and Click trim we sell, what it does, where it goes and its price at the time of writing (ex VAT, 3m lengths unless stated). Trims are fitted before the boards. For setting out, fixing positions and spacings, always follow the Cedral fixing guide (PDF).

Cedral Lap trims

Lap trims are PPC (powder-coated) aluminium, colour matched to the boards. You can buy them in Cedral Lap trims and accessories.

Trim What it does / where it goes Price (ex VAT)
Start profile Starts the cladding run at the bottom of the wall, with a lip that covers the first batten. £20.40
Symmetric external corner Finishes and protects external corners. £33.79
Asymmetric external corner For the vertical edges of window and door openings: lapped boards on the facade, with a single board laid flat in the reveal. Fits on the left or right edge. £29.54
Internal corner Finishes internal (inward-facing) corners. £26.04
End profile 45 A stop end for runs that finish partway along a wall. Protects the board edges. The 45mm leg sits behind the boards. £22.74
End profile 65 A stop end that also hides the battens from the side view. Covers timber battens up to 38mm deep. £22.74
Connection profile (Lap and Click) Finishes Cedral used as a single board. On Lap it is for window and door reveals. £19.41
Plastic external corner cap (Lap) Plastic cap for Lap external corners. £1.46 each

Cedral Click trims

Click trims are different profiles because Click is tongue-and-groove and secret fixed. The start profiles are plain aluminium. The corners and lintel come in a smaller colour range than Lap trims (roughly 10–12 colours at the time of writing), so check your colour on the product page. See Cedral Click trims and accessories.

Trim What it does / where it goes Price (ex VAT)
Horizontal start profile Supports the bottom row of horizontally fixed Click boards at the base of the wall. £34.71
Vertical start profile Gives a base for the bottom edge of vertically fixed Click boards. £15.15
External corner For 90° external corners, and as upright trims at window and door reveals. £28.99
Internal corner For 90° internal corners. £24.81
Lintel profile Fitted horizontally above windows and doors. Supports the next run of Click and hides the tongue and groove. £25.64
Connection profile (Lap and Click) On Click, used as an end stop to cap an edge and to trim window and door reveals. £19.41
Plastic external corner cap (Click) Plastic cap for Click external corners. £1.05 each

Perforated closures (insect mesh)

Cedral is a ventilated rainscreen system. Air enters at the bottom of the cavity behind the boards and leaves at the top. Perforated closures are aluminium profiles that keep insects, birds and debris out while letting air through. They go at the top and bottom of the battens, and above and below windows and doors. They come in 2.5m lengths:

Choose the size to suit your batten and cavity depth. If you are not sure which one you need, check the fixing guide or send us your batten size and we will tell you. For more on why the cavity matters, read Cedral facades: the importance of ventilation.

Fixings by substructure

Cedral Lap on timber battens

Lap is face fixed with nails or screws into treated timber battens:

For larger jobs there is also the SR90 gas nailer (£347.70) and Quikload stainless nails with fuel cell (£40.87).

Cedral Lap on a metal frame

Lap can also go on a metal frame with the right screws. Specification depends on the frame, so check the fixing guide or ask us before ordering.

Cedral Click on timber battens

Click is secret fixed with hidden stainless steel clips. On timber, use the Click clip and screw set (£103.92). Spare screws for Click clips are £22.62.

Cedral Click on an aluminium frame

Use the Click clip and rivet set (£103.92). The listing gives 250 clips and rivets per box, covering about 21m² (around 35 boards) at 7 fixings per board.

Other bits that are easy to forget

Where each of these goes in the build-up is shown in the fixing guide.

Cedral trims FAQs

Can I use Lap trims on Cedral Click?

Use the trims listed for your system. Apart from the connection profile, which works with both, we sell separate Lap and Click start profiles, corners and end trims, and the lintel profile is Click only. If you are thinking of swapping one for the other, ask us first.

What is the difference between End Profile 45 and End Profile 65?

Both finish a run that stops partway along a wall. The 65 version also hides timber battens up to 38mm deep from the side view.

Do I need perforated closures?

Yes. They let air move through the ventilated cavity while keeping insects, birds and debris out. Fit them at the top and bottom of the battens and around openings.

Which fixings do I need for Click on an aluminium frame?

The Click clip and rivet set. On timber battens, use the clip and screw set.

Are trims fitted before or after the boards?

Before. Start profiles, corners, end profiles and lintel profiles all go on first, with their legs sitting behind the boards.
