How To Maintain Composite Decking

Our composite decking is a fantastic choice to make if you are looking to improve your outdoor area with a finishing touch that will dramatically change the space. It's always important to maintain your home improvements so they last long and stay looking brand new for their lifetime. Here's a few tips on how you can ensure your decking always reaches its potential.

General Cleaning

In terms of a routine clean that keeps your composite decking to a good standard all year round, we recommend a clean every 3 to 6 months. This simply consists of soapy water with a bristled brush. However, if you want a slightly deeper cleaner, we suggest a jet wash with no more than 3100 PSI and no closer than 250mm to the decking. Ensure you wash the dirt off the boards so that it doesn't build up on the decking.

Stains And Grease

For more stubborn dirt, such as stains or grease, you can use the above method with some extra tips. Once the stain appears, you should clean it within the first 7 days of it occurring to achieve the best results. Alternatively, you can use a water based composite decking cleaner that has been designed with the intention of cleaning stubborn stains.

Water Stains

Our composite decking is manufactured to the highest standard, yet inevitably residual oils can occasionally appear and these may look like white streaks across the boards. These will vanish after a maximum of 8 weeks when the decking is exposed to the rain, however if you want them to disappear quicker you can carry out the following. You can use soapy water or a jet wash, like described above for general cleaning. Otherwise, you can use a brightener that has been formulated specifically to clear residual oils.

Ice And Snow

In the winter months, you can expect ice and snow to build up on your decking and we recommend clearing this to ensure your decking is always safe. This should be done with a plastic shovel rather than metal so that the decking is not impaired. If you wish to melt the ice, use a salt free and non corrosive formula so no residue is left over. You can also use rock salt, but ensure this is removed soon after it is applied so it does not damage the decking.

Mildew And Mould

Our composite decking is resistant to mould and mildew, however like all outdoor surfaces this can happen over time. Our best advice is to follow all the cleaning steps above as this way your decking will always be maintained to its potential, therefore no build up will be able to occur.
