Restoring Your Architraves
Architraves are the finishing touch to any room in your house and there's no doubt you want them looking brand new all year round. However, there's no shying away from a bit of wear and tear, especially if you have little ones around. Thankfully, we have just the guide you need for restoring your architraves if they are in need of a little refresh.

Cleaning
If your architraves need a little clean rather than something more intense, then look no further. You can simply use a duster to remove any unwanted dust and then follow with a damp cloth for a refresh. For this, you will need to open the door or alternatively you can remove it from its hinges if you want to get in all the smaller areas.
Restoring
Your architraves may require more than a clean and you can decide on this if they are dented, scratched or if you are simply not happy with the way they look. You will need to use a specific paint stripping product if your architraves are made from timber and you will need to ensure the paste is covering all areas using a brush.

You can then use plastic sheeting on the areas that you have applied the product to and you will need to press gently so they are secured onto the architrave. If you wish to test this before carrying out the whole procedure, try a small patch first so you can gauge how much you may need and how long the process will take for your specific architraves.
After this step, you will need to allow 24 hours for the process to work as this can't be rushed. To check whether it has been successful, try a small area to start with and you will be able to tell whether the paint stripper has worked. If the paint falls off easily, you can then start the next step.

The final step will require a scraper to be able to remove all the paint stripper and the paint on your architraves. After this, you can used a dish washing brush to get rid of any excess material, but you should do so carefully. Your paint will then be removed and you will be left with a blank canvas.
Following this, you can then sand your architraves until they are smooth so that you can use a primer, undercoat and then your new paint to restore your architraves and make them look brand new again.
