Tips On Cleaning Your Guttering
We have a wide range of guttering for you to choose from, but you may be wondering how to keep it clean or how often it requires cleaning. Guttering needs cleaning or debris and dirt will build up, meaning it can't function at its best ability and this will lead to sagging. If this happens, water won't be able to pass through and then leaks can appear or your guttering could break. Fortunately, we have all the tips and tricks you need to maintain your guttering so you don't have to worry about googling for hours to find some help.

How Often Should I Clean My Guttering?
To maintain a healthy gutter all year round, we advise that you clean it twice a year minimum. However, this depends on your environment as properties surrounded by nature and trees will need to clean more frequently due to the build up of leaves and debris.
Equipment
You will need a stable ladder to clean your guttering and this is the first step that you must carry out carefully. The ladder must be on a level ground and you you should always use a ladder that is sturdy to prevent any risks. You will also need protective gloves for a good grip, but also to prevent any injury from materials or screws.
To collect the debris or dirt, it is a good idea to lay down tarpaulin or use a bucket. If you use tarpaulin it can collect the dirt and thus separate it from the ground, saving you extra cleaning time. Alternatively, you can attach a bucket to your ladder and collect the debris along the way.

Removing Debris
Firstly, we advise removing debris from the roof so that your gutters stay clean and your cleaning is then worth the task. You can do this by using a rake to collect any debris from the roof. Following this, you can remove debris from your gutters and this is easily done using a trowel or your hands, but make sure you are wearing protective gloves. This can be disposed of however you wish as detailed above, by using a bucket or tarpaulin.
Cleaning Downpipes
Once you have cleaned your guttering, the next step is to clean your downpipes to finish the process. You can do so by dismantling them with a screwdriver to loosen the clips and brackets, so that you can remove any debris. This can be removed with a hose or stick in order to ensure the pipes are clean again and then you can reconnect them together again.

Guards And Brushes
If you wish to keep your guttering to a high standard, the use of gutter guards and gutter brushes are a wise idea. Gutter guards are placed across the guttering and act as a barrier to prevent the build of debris from going into the gutter system, yet water can still flow through.
Additionally, gutter brushes are a flexible wire brush that sit in the gutter and let water pass through, but don't allow leaves to flow down too, thus lessening the build up. Gutter brushes and gutter guards still require cleaning themselves, so that they are utilised to the their full potential, as well as cleaning your guttering overall to ensure a full flowing system.
