Will My Composite Decking Get Too Hot In Summer?

The decision to go for our composite decking is on the rise and with summer approaching, you may be thinking about whether it will get too hot or uncomfortable as some decking can. Although it depends on a few factors such as design, colours and layout, our composite decking doesn't get too hot at all and we will explain why.

Sunlight Exposure

Any material that is exposed to sunlight will, of course, absorb some heat and therefore you would think it could get too hot. This is the case for wood decking and you may have experienced the shock of walking on decking in the summer only to discover it is too hot to walk on and slightly burns.

However, our composite decking is able to withstand this heat due to highly reflective pigments and its fantastic material structure. Plus, as it's so durable you don't need to worry whether it will crack or shrink in the sun, like wood decking might. It may get very slightly warm, but this won't be too noticeable and could in fact be a nice aspect in the summer evenings.

Colour

Similar to many materials, colours play a big part in how much sunlight and warmth is absorbed and this is also the case for composite decking. Thus, darker colours will absorb more heat and lighter colours won't so much. Therefore, it is up to you whether you choose light or dark colours and we have a huge range available

You can go for lighter colours if you are certain you don't want much heat to be absorbed, or you can choose darker colours and shade them. A simple structure or umbrella will help in lessening the exposure to your decking, so you could always consider adding furniture around your decking.

Layout

If your composite decking is in a south facing garden, it will evidently be open to more sunlight exposure and thus slightly more warmth. On the other hand, if your garden if north facing it will absorb less heat. As well as these factors, it all depends on how you have designed your garden and the placement of your decking.

For example, if you have large trees covering your decking, less heat will be absorbed as it will be covered. Whereas, if your decking is open to the sunlight all day long, then you can expect it to be a little warmer. Overall, our composite decking absorbs very minimal heat, so if this is a concern for you then you can relax knowing it won't provide any hassle.
