WALL TIES EXPLAINED – LINKING LEAVES FOR LASTING STRUCTURE

Wall ties are metal components used to connect the two leaves of cavity walls, ensuring they act as a single structural unit and resisting external forces.

Main types of wall ties:

Masonry-to-Masonry Ties: Such as VE4, VE2, EN2, used in new cavity wall construction
Low Thermal Conductivity Ties: NEUTRAS series, ideal for thermal efficiency
Heavy-Duty Safety Ties: VST1, VS6, VE1 for high-rise or commercial builds
Remedial Ties: HELI, REM, and V30, for retrofitting or replacing corroded ties
Starter Ties: V63 and SST for joining new walls to existing ones

CHOOSING THE RIGHT PRODUCT FOR YOUR BUILD

Building Height: Heavier-duty ties for buildings over 10m
Cavity Width: Ties and hangers must suit gap dimensions
Material Compatibility: Galvanised for dry environments, stainless for exposed/industrial zones
Movement Needs: Use debonded or movement ties where expansion joints are necessary

SSFT Starter Frame Ties are used for fixing timber door and window frames to brickwork by building into mortar courses as construction progresses.

MFS Multi-Fix Strapping (GFB): an inexpensive perforated strip which can easily be cut or bent to provide a quick and reliable method of bracing roof trusses / diagonal strutting to floor joists / holding down wallplates / suspending pipework and cables / general repairs to fencing and many other DIY jobs. Manufactured from 0.9mm thick galvanised steel.

HELICAL TIE Timber Frame Wall Ties is a 4.5mm newbuild stainless steel masonry-timber tie for domestic and small commercial buildings up to four storeys high.

Heavy duty restraint straps (galvanised edge coated) are suitable for horizontal restraint applications such as tying timber roofs and floors into masonry walls.

V61 Timber Frame Ties: a stainless steel masonry-timber tie for domestic and small commercial buildings up to four storeys high.

T-head bolts are manufactured from either stainless steel or hot dip galvanised steel and come in a variety of lengths and thread diameters to suit your requirements.

ABL Angle Brackets are a versatile range of brackets for use in 90 degree connections allowing for use of nails, screws and / or bolts and coach screws.

Hammer-driven cavity wall tie, ideal for aircrete blockwork and applications where the joints of inner and outer leaves of masonry do not course.
